How to wash and dry maternity supportwear

  • 3 minimum gelesen

For Secret Saviours Band and Brief garments, the current product instructions specify washing at 30°C and air drying. Start there, then check the care label on the item you actually own. Different items of maternity supportwear can have different requirements.

The part that catches people out is often drying time. A spare garment is only useful if the first one has somewhere sensible to dry.

Read the label before you first wash maternity supportwear

Check the wash temperature and drying instructions while the label is easy to find. If the symbols are unclear, ask the brand rather than treating every stretchy item like a pair of ordinary leggings.

The Secret Saviours Band and Brief product pages provide their current care information. Follow the instructions for your particular item if its label differs or the range has changed.

Do not assume that a warmer wash is an improvement. Likewise, a machine’s quick programme is not automatically the correct one simply because you need the garment tomorrow.

Give the garment room in the laundry routine

Check pockets in the rest of the load and keep rough fastenings from catching on delicate fabric. If the label specifies any additional protection or washing method, follow it.

Use a laundry product compatible with the garment’s instructions and your skin. There is no need to invent an elaborate specialist routine where the brand has not asked for one.

If you are unsure about stain treatments, fabric conditioner or a product you already use, ask before applying it to the garment. Advice for a cotton T-shirt may not transfer to a garment with internal pads and stretch panels.

Allow proper air-drying time

After washing, arrange the garment so it can dry fully according to its label. Do not improvise with a tumble dryer or direct heater when the instructions say air dry.

Drying time will vary with the room, airflow and how wet the garment is. Avoid relying on a universal promise such as “dry by morning”. Try your normal setup once and see what it actually takes.

Put the garment away only when it is dry. A damp item pushed into a drawer or suitcase is unlikely to be the pleasant clean spare you had in mind.

Work out whether you need another pair

Think through one ordinary laundry cycle. If you wear a garment today, when will it be washed, and when will it be ready again? Who will deal with it if you are away or recovering after birth?

You may already have enough options to cover that gap. If not, a second suitable garment could be more useful than buying a whole new kit when you still have the skincare at home.

Before another purchase, check the size and condition of what you own. A clean garment still needs to fit correctly.

Check as you put it away

Look for worn seams, damage, distortion or changes to the internal pads. If something seems different, send a clear photo to the brand and ask whether it remains suitable to use.

Keep the care instructions somewhere you can find them, particularly if someone else will handle the washing. A quick photo of the label is considerably easier than explaining the entire laundry system from the sofa.
