Here is how to wear a pregnancy belly band from Secret Saviours: measure your current bump using our size guide, apply Day Gel and put the band directly against your skin. Spread it smoothly over the bump with the edges flat. It should feel close and secure without pain. Remove it at bedtime and apply Night Cream.
If you spend more time rearranging your belly band than wearing it comfortably, something needs checking. Usually that means its position, the fabric folding over, or the size.
Start with the kind of band you own. A narrow support belt worn beneath the bump and a Secret Saviours skin-support band have different jobs and different instructions. The steps below are for ours.
Where should a pregnancy belly band sit?
The Secret Saviours Band covers the bump. Its Derma Dot™ area needs contact with the skin underneath. Don’t fold it into a narrow strip below your stomach or wear it over a vest.
Smooth the fabric around the sides and back, then check both edges. A hidden fold is quite capable of making itself known halfway through the morning.
For other types of band or pelvic support belt, follow that manufacturer’s fitting instructions. If your midwife or physiotherapist has recommended a belt for pain, use it as they advise. Our guide to pregnancy belly bands explains the differences.
How to wear the Secret Saviours pregnancy belly band, step by step
1. Measure your bump
Follow the measuring points in the Secret Saviours size guide, using your current bump measurement. Keep the tape level and comfortably against your body. Don’t pull it tight to make the number smaller.
Check again if the fit changes. A garment with stretch still has a size range; it is not a promise that the same size will suit every stage of every pregnancy.
2. Apply the Day Gel first
Apply a light, even layer of Day Gel over the skin the band will cover. Our routine instructions suggest roughly a 50p-sized amount for the bump.
It should feel slightly tacky. That is deliberate: the gel helps the pads stay in place. A slippery body oil is not a like-for-like substitute beneath this band.
3. Pull the band on against the skin
Put the band on before your clothes, so the dots sit against the skin. Ease the fabric into place around the whole bump rather than pulling hard on one edge.
Run your hands around the sides and back to find any twists. Lay the top and bottom edges flat.
4. Check the fit
Sit down, stand up and take a full breath. The band should stay close without pinching or making you feel restricted. Try those movements now, before adding jeans and a jumper.
A light imprint from the dots can be expected with this product. It should fade shortly after removal. Pain, deep pressure marks or numbness are reasons to take the band off and check the fit, not signs it is working harder.
5. Wear it through the day
The band is designed for daytime use as part of the three-step routine. Wear it consistently when comfortable, and take it off if it causes symptoms or irritation.
The routine page advises renewing the Day Gel if it dries out during the day. Follow the product instructions rather than adding a thick layer in the hope it will last longer.
6. Remove it at bedtime
Remove the band before sleep and apply Night Cream to the skin. You do not need to sleep in the band to complete the Secret Saviours routine.
The Band Kit contains the band, Day Gel and Night Cream. If you already own the band, the formulas can also be bought separately.

Why does my belly band roll or slip?
First take it off and put it on again with the fabric spread evenly. Check for folds at the lower edge and around your back. Make sure it is against the skin with Day Gel, rather than sitting over slippery clothing.
If it still moves, remeasure and ask us about the fit. Both an incorrect size and uneven positioning can make a garment awkward to wear. Buying a smaller one without checking is an expensive guessing game.
What the research does and doesn’t tell you
The clinical study explained on our site assessed the abdominal band and skincare routine together. Its findings should not be treated as a result for the band alone or for any generic pregnancy support belt.
Fit instructions help you use the product as intended. They cannot guarantee that you won’t develop stretch marks, and discomfort is never something to push through for a cosmetic result.
When should you start wearing a pregnancy belly band?
Secret Saviours recommends beginning around weeks 12 to 14. If you’re further along, choose from your current measurements. There is no reason to buy a painfully tight band because you’ve started later.
For the timing of visible marks, see when pregnancy stretch marks start. That timing varies from person to person.
A quick fit check before you leave the bedroom
A quick check is enough:
- The fabric covers the bump and lies flat against the skin.
- The edges and back are free from folds.
- You can sit, move and breathe comfortably.
Then get dressed. The aim is a band you can get on with wearing, rather than one you spend all day thinking about.
Take the band off if it causes pain, numbness, dizziness or a worrying symptom. Contact your maternity team for advice about pregnancy symptoms rather than assuming a fit adjustment will solve them.
FAQ
Can I wear the band over a vest?
Secret Saviours Derma Dot™ supportwear needs direct skin contact, with Day Gel beneath it. Your clothes go over the band.
Can I wear the band without Day Gel?
The product is designed to be used with it. The gel’s tacky finish helps the dots remain in contact with the skin, and the complete routine is what was tested.
Are dot marks normal after taking it off?
A faint imprint that fades shortly afterwards is expected. Painful or persistent marks need a fit check; take the band off if it is uncomfortable.
Can I sleep in my pregnancy belly band?
For Secret Saviours, remove it at bedtime and use the Night Cream. Other brands and prescribed support belts have their own instructions.
