This drug-free health remedy is the perfect cheat for pregnancy ailments
Pregnancy is an amazing time for your body. However, one arguable drawback is not being able to enjoy the instant relief of painkillers or other over-the-counter quick fixes for common ailments like the flu, headaches or even hayfever.
Thankfully, there are some chemical-free solutions available to help alleviate these problems as well as those occurring because of pregnancy.
Morning sickness (also known as the most offensive misnomer of all time EVER!) is among the most common pregnancy symptoms. Ironically, it’s a good sign that your hormone levels are high enough for the healthy development of your baby. (If you don’t suffer from this, it does not mean anything’s wrong and you’re probably just lucky – just don’t start bragging to your pregnant friends.)
It tends to last up to 14 weeks into the pregnancy, so just hang in there till the second trimester. But why not hang on these suggestions in the meantime?
Acupuncture (yep, the one with the needles) is an amazing option in the quest for peace of gut and more minor health issues. Über-thin needles needles are inserted in skin at specific points of the body to improve its energy flow.
It has proved helpful at combatting all-day-and-night-sickness (let’s not mince our words here, folks) as well as headaches, back ache, pelvic pain and high and low blood pressure.
For those of you who are anti-needle, rest assured they’re so fine that most people don’t feel anything more than a warm tingle.
Alternatively, if acupuncture’s just not your bag, its more attractive cousin acupressure has also been known to work wonders. Based on the same principles as acupuncture, this one’s adopts the same method but without the needles. It’s all about applying gentle pressure on the fingers, palms, elbows or feet to restore a healthy balance to the body’s channels of energy…
Basically, it might just work. Just make sure you use a registered and qualified practitioner. Check out the British Acupuncture Council’s website to find a registered member in your area.
