There comes a time in every pregnancy when your fail-safe jeans don’t quite do up anymore, and looking for the best maternity jeans to replace them with can be pretty daunting – especially if it’s your first time, so it can be easy to put off.
But this September is the 25th year of Jeans for Genes day (a day where wearing your denim can help raise money for children with genetic disorders), the perfect reason to finally take the plunge and swap into some stylish maternity jeans.
It’s estimated that one out of 25 children is diagnosed with a genetic disorder – that’s 30,000 babies and children in the UK each year.
So far Jeans for Genes has raised over £45 million for these children so it’s really an easy way to do a lot of good (and look good doing it!)
To make the decision a little easier we’ve rounded up some of the best maternity jean styles currently available online in a mixture of styles for every mum-to-be.
The best maternity jeans styles available

This pair is under the bump with a soft jersey panel so they can grow with you, perfect if you like a low rise look or prefer to tuck in your top!
Maternity jeans Sophia
An over the bump favourite for anyone who prefers a little more support and coverage (or wants an extra layer now that the weather’s turning colder) are Lillyandribbon.com’s maternity jeans Sophia also for £49 (and available in three shades of denim – we love the light wash)
This pair comes in three leg lengths for an even better fit, and was voted the best maternity jeans by The Independent, The Mirror, The Sun and Grazia. They’re a super stretchy and comfortable denim and the perfect versatile pair of jeans to pair with sexy heels or practical trainers.
Verdugo maternity – Nottingham jeans
A dark denim, smart pair or maternity jeans that really form your body are the Verdugo Maternity – Nottingham jeans from Paige.com.
These £184.99 underbump jeans are mid-rise and have an ultra-skinny fit for all the loyal skinny jeans lovers out there.
Mama:licious jeans week promotion
If you’re looking for a bargain Mama:licious currently has 25% off all of their jeans to celebrate jeans week! And there are a few pairs that really caught our eye.
Their straight fit maternity jeans (were £59.99 but are £44.99 on sale!) are fashion forward in a stonewashed black/grey colour and with a tapered leg that makes them the perfect replacement for your staple mom jeans.
They also have a comfortable stretch to them as they’re a combination of 97% cotton and 3% elastane!
Another beautiful pair are the straight leg maternity jeans (also down to £44.99 from £59.99!) which are an over the bump fit and a vintage-look faded denim.
They look amazing over boots and are great with a nice shirt or a cosy jumper. Most of the maternity jeans on the market are slim fit – a flare or bootcut can sometimes create odd proportions but these styles have been carefully designed to avoid such a problem.
And if you tend to wear looser styles of jeans anyway it’s important to still feel like yourself while you’re pregnant!
Over the bump maternity boyfriend jean
The over the bump maternity boyfriend jean from isabellaoliver.com is £75 and in a washed indigo colour is the ideal versatile pair of jeans for trendy trainers or high fashion pumps. This pair is another that is popular in the press, and has features on The Telegraph online, Grazia online and Moms & Tots! This boyfriend cut, with a comfort-adding over the bump waist, and stretch cotton denim really makes them the perfect off-duty jeans. An added bonus – they’re sustainable! And were made using low mileage, natural fibres and an ethical making process.
Although we would recommend you just buy one to start with and hold off on multiples or colour variations of your favourite maternity jeans, since your body will continue to change throughout your pregnancy and you don’t know if they’ll continue to fit quite so perfectly!
Loose fit smock maternity trousers
An extra comfortable pair from mama:licious is their loose fit smock maternity trousers made from 100% organic cotton. This pair was originally £44.99 but is part of their jeans week sale so if currently just £33.74! they’re a light blue, lightweight denim, with an elasticated waist and over the bump fit, their loose fit makes them really easy to wear, ideal for your go-to t-shirt and trainers.

The Asos design maternity mom jean in washed pink with over the bump band are cheap (£35 – down to £28 on sale) cheerful and just so cute for dressing up or down.
