#RecipeSaviours: Basil Lemonade

It’s the perfect way to quench your pregnancy thirst this summer

 Basil Lemonade

We’re loving this alcohol-free summer drink recipe by Kate Merker at Real Simple. Serve it at your barbecue; take it to the park. Wherever you enjoy this tasty beverage, it's sure to keep you hydrated and super-chilled.

Bottoms up!

Serves: 8
Time: 15 minutes prep
Good for: Gulp! Ahhhhhh…

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh basil leaves, plus 8 sprigs for garnishing
8 cups lemonade

Method

• In a small saucepan, over a medium heat, bring the sugar and 1½ cups cold water to a simmer. Cook, without stirring, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly, for about 5 minutes.
• Remove from the heat, add the basil and let cool to room temperature. Strain the syrup into a resealable container and discard the solids.
• Pour 2 to 3 teaspoons of the basil syrup into each of 8 ice-filled glasses, then fill with lemonade. Garnish with an additional sprig of basil. (You can cover and refrigerate the remaining syrup for up to 2 weeks.)

And that’s that! Cheers!

This looks like the perfect summer cocktail for my friend who is due to give birth in October. She’s been craving cocktails and is bored of drinking just orange juice whilst we all continue to sip Pimm’s during our summer picnics and barbecues. Will definitely pass on the recipe!
