The Health Benefits of Drinking Lemon With Water

What would you say if we told you the key to a healthier body, beautiful skin and less morning sickness was in a piece of fruit? Because that’s the proposition we’re putting to you.

Secret Saviours have been enlightened on the benefits of drinking water with lemon (and they are huge), thanks to lifestyle blog Complete Health and Wellness.

For example, the blend is great for pregnant women as lemons are full of Vitamin C, which helps to fight infections like colds and sore throats. Vitamin C also aids in the development of your unborn baby’s bone tissue. And thanks to its high potassium content, it helps form the baby’s brain cells and nervous system.

On a more selfish note, lemons are a godsend for relieving heartburn, (just mix a teaspoon of lemon juice in half a glass of water), weight loss and hydration. They contain pectin fibre, which helps stave off those cravings. They also produce electrolytes including calcium and magnesium, excellent for hydration.

Warm water with lemon is also great at regulating, ahem, bowel movement. (Stop giggling at the back, please!) Its citric acid helps with digestion by interacting with other enzymes and acids and cleanses the liver as it helps it to release toxins. Lemon is a powerful antioxidant that protects the body from free radicals and strengthens the immune system.

Just one lemon a day can even help lower blood pressure by 10%.

The little yellow fruit doesn’t just take care of the inside, but is great for the outside too. According to the blog, “Vitamin C improves the skin by rejuvenating the body. Drinking water with lemon every morning will improve the condition of your skin.”

Frankly, we don’t know why there isn’t a shop solely dedicated to selling lemons. With this info, it would sell out within minutes.

Lemon Water Recipe

It couldn’t be easier to make one of the healthiest cocktails ever.

Fill half a cup with warm water (we recommend bottled or filtered) and squeeze half a lemon into the cup – or a whole one if you can handle it, (of course you can).

If you don’t already have one, it could be worth buying a juicer to get all the juice with little effort. Alternatively, the blog suggests using lemon essential oil.

Many say drinking the mix on an empty stomach first thing every morning is the best way to get results.

So bottoms up!
